Your program kit contains 155 minutes of video for parents
and 124 minutes of video for teens to demonstrate key concepts. (All videos are closed-captioned.)
Here are some samples.
In this scene from Session 4 of the parent video, watch how
Dad's perfectionism discourages his daughter. Before playing
the video, the class leader will encourage parents to try putting
themselves in Jada's shoes, and imagining what they would think,
feel, and do if it were them.
The leader will then start a discussion with the class using
questions from the Leader's Guide. The next video supports the
group leader by having a narrator reinforce key points before
showing a more encouraging way to handle the situation. (The
narrator is also helpful to parents who may borrow the video
from your resource library.) Again, put yourself in Jada's shoes
and see what you would think, feel, and do this time.
In this clip from the teen video, high-spirited narrators
Alicia and Connor present a summary of all six sessions:
methods, as opposed to didactic lecturing, are a key aspect of
successful parent education programs and include activities such
as group discussion, role playing, active modeling, homework
exercises, and reviewing videos of effective parenting
approaches (Brown, 2005)."
With video, activities,
"show and tell," group discussion, and weekly Family
Enrichment Activities (homework), Families in Action meets
all those requirements and more!
