Dr. Popkin To Teach International Course in July 2001
(open to the public!)
Active Parenting Publishers

Active Parenting President Michael H. Popkin, Ph.D., will teach a course titled Parent Education—Leadership Training at the International Committee for Adlerian Summer Schools and Institutes 2001 (ICASSI), July 22-28, in the Netherlands.

The course will cover core Adlerian principles such as goals of behavior, styles of parenting, consequences and other parenting techniques. There will be special emphasis on parent education as violence prevention. Students will also learn effective methods of implementing, promoting and leading state-of-the-art parenting education programs in a variety of community settings. In addition, Web-based training and Internet applications will be explored.

ICASSI courses teach Adlerian theory and its application in a variety of settings such as families, schools, community agencies and businesses. The professional and personal development courses range from introductory to advanced and it is possible to earn continuing education units (APA, NBCC). “I know how much ICASSI helped me as a young graduate student, and I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute to this generation of students as well as more experienced Active Parenting leaders,” says Dr. Popkin.

The Institute, which runs July 22-August 4, will be held at the Mennorode Conference Centre in Elspeet--a lovely woodland setting in the heart of Holland. Students may enroll for one or two weeks of study. There will be family programs for youths ages 4-17. Dr. Popkin’s wife, Melody, and children Megan, 14, and Ben, 10, will accompany him.
