Bud, The Character Education Pup, Paws His Way Into Students’ Hearts

Kids love BUD.

Teachers love BUD.

Principals love BUD.

Who is this “BUD” that has entire schools talking about him and his alter ego, Dud?

Well, Bud is a former Orlando (Florida) Humane Society resident with a wet nose, wagging tail and ears that stick out at a right angle. Part Irish Wolfhound, Bud found a loving and lively home with Florida businessman Keith Courtney and his family.

His antics in the Courtney household led to a book for children, and today he’s the star of Bud & Dud: Your Winning Habits, a video program using canine humor to help elementary students begin their school day with a smile and positive attitude.

The school’s morning announcements get off to a tail-wagging start with cartoon Bud (on video) as he demonstrates winning habits such as smiling, greeting others, respecting all adults, respecting all kids, respecting your school, learning, thanking and doing your best.

“Children are looking for something that warms their heart, and Bud’s antics demonstrate positive behaviors that kids want to emulate,” Courtney explains. Bud—and his many new friends—agree!
