Home Depot associates are used to
the idea of helping. After all, their slogan is “You can
do it. We can help.” Now these associates are receiving
help from their employer in creating a balance between their Home
Depot job and their other full-time job of parenting.
This summer Active Parenting founder and president Michael H.
Popkin, Ph.D., addressed an audience of parents at The
Home Depot Store Support Center in Atlanta as part of a Lunch
and Learn seminar.
In his discussion, Dr. Popkin discussed ways working parents
can tackle the challenges of raising children in today’s
complicated society.
“Today’s working parents have dual priorities,”
noted Dr. Popkin. “Companies like The Home Depot—companies
that are committed to helping them succeed at both—are building
winning relationships.”
“Taking care of our people is a core value at The Home
Depot, and one we take very seriously,” notes Director of
Associates Layne Thome. “This was a great opportunity for
us all to tackle challenging issues and learn some valuable skills
we can use both at home and at work.”
The Home Depot currently offers ongoing Active Parenting seminars
for parents of children starting as young as two and going all
the way to the teen years. They recently added a Parents
on Board seminar designed to help parents help their
children succeed in school. During the first offering of this
course, some associates had to be turned away when more parents
signed up than the class could hold. Home Depot associates also
have the opportunity to sign up for discounted online
parenting classes, the ideal solution for those who travel
or can’t get to a regular seminar.
