Training of Trainers heads north

This year we held three Training of Trainers (ToT) workshops, as well as several more specially arranged, customized ToTs for individual organizations. Due to increasing demand in the northeastern part of the country, we welcomed 18 participants to our first ToT in Boston this October. As you can see from the photos on this page, the workshops attract a wide range of family educators from all over the world.

Next year's ToT schedule will be about the same, although we are considering adding a fourth ToT in the northwest. As always, it is possible to arrange a customized Special ToT for a group of twelve or more.

Training of Trainers 2006:
• Atlanta, GA - July 13-15, 2006 (Active Parenting Now/Teens or Cooperative Parenting and Divorce)
• Irvine, CA - August 3-5, 2006 (Active Parenting Now/Teens or Padres Activos de Hoy)
• Boston, MA - October 12-14, 2006 (Active Parenting Now/Teens)

Welcome, Baby Beamish!

After many years of leading parents and training trainers, National Trainer David Beamish is finally practicing what he preaches. Mitchell Beamish was born March 21st and is already enjoying the benefits of active parenting. Congratulations to David and his family.

Spanish entrenamiento
Our Spanish-language leader training continues to increase in popularity and will be offered throughout the year. "The Spanish Leader Training Workshops are a great opportunity for leaders to learn how to implement parenting education in their community," notes trainer Roxana Fine of Half Moon Bay, California. "And at the same time they can share ideas about the unique challenges they face working with Hispanic parents."

What's Your Parenting Style? Quiz Improved

Our popular What's Your Parenting Style? quiz now automatically calculates results. It's easier than ever for parents to learn if they are dictators, doormats, or active parents. Just tell them to go to the Parents page of our web site: www.ActiveParenting.com/parents.htm.
The quiz is also available in a printer-friendly format. Its a great way to start off parenting classes—just be sure to include Active Parenting's copyright line at the bottom.

Arkansas leader Shealby Brasier has found that the quiz helps break the ice at the beginning of her one-on-one parent education sessions:

"Most of my students are court-ordered, and some have a bad attitude when they come to class, but after they take the quiz and we go over the results, they calm down. Then after they watch the first tape they see where they might learn something after all. They are surprised at the results. I go over the results with them and explain where they need to either raise or lower the dictator or the doormat style to become an active parent. After they finish the course and they take the same quiz again, their score does change for the better and they are happy."

Thank you, partners!
As always we are very grateful to our Training Partners for their help in scheduling Leader Training Workshops. By providing a meeting room and other assistance, these partners helped bring more parenting education to their community while earning a $25 product credit for each attendee. Being a Training Partner is a great way to stretch those budget dollars during tough times!
