| Parents: are you up for the challenge? Dr. Popkin urges parents to begin talking to their kids about not smoking |
|
| You know your kids face tremendous pressures each day to engage in negative behaviorlike smoking cigarettes. While the topic of not smoking may not be the first thing that comes to mind, your speaking up can make a big difference in their decision to not light up. In fact, research conducted by Dartmouth Medical School found that adolescents are less likely to participate in negative habits and behaviors, like smoking, if their parents voice strong disapproval. | ![]() |
| Unfortunately, many
parents don't initiate these conversations. A recent
survey conducted by Impulse Research reveals that 79
percent of parents ranked topics like drugs, alcohol, and
sex as more important to discuss than smoking.
