"LEADER" On-line: Spring/Summer 1999 "The Active Parenting Community Pitches In" |

When is a purchase more than a purchase? When it's a donation as well! In autumn of 1998 Active Parenting decided to make a donation to a food bank for every item purchased by December 15. Thanks to hearty customer support, we were able to send a substantial check to two hundred food banks, through the Second Harvest National Food Bank Network. Second Harvest solicits donated food and grocery products from the nation's food industry: growers, processors, manufacturers, distributors and retailers. The donations consist primarily of surplus food that might otherwise go to waste were it not for the effective distribution channel provided by Second Harvest's network. The products are shipped directly from the donors to a nationwide network of nearly 200 food banks, which are large regional centers that distribute the food to almost 50,000 charitable agencies such as food pantries, soup kitchens and homeless shelters. For more information about Second Harvest, call 800-532-FOOD or visit www.secondharvest.org. Active Parenting's employees have also had the opportunity to support families through donations to SafePath Children's Advocacy Center, located just down the road from our Marietta, Georgia, headquarters. SafePath is dedicated to eliminating further trauma to abused and neglected children by providing a safe, child-friendly and centralized location for investigation and recovery. Although Active Parenting founder and president Michael Popkin sits on the SafePath Board of Directors, this is the first year that the entire company has had the opportunity to help in this way. In December, 92 percent of the company's employees made the decision to have an amount deducted from every paycheck during the upcoming year. For more information about SafePath, call (770) 801-3465. In 1999, this spirit of giving continues, but with a twist: our donation will be to your organization, made in the form of free shipping and handling. Through June 30, 1999, any purchases you make will be sent without a shipping and handling chargean eight percent savings that we're sure your budget will appreciate. To qualify, you must give the VIP Code printed on your Spring 1999 Active Parenting Resource Guide; contact Active Parenting to order.
