Parents on Board
Building Academic Success
Through Parent Involvement
by Michael H. Popkin, Ph.D., Bettie B. Youngs, Ph.D., Ed.D.,
and Jane M. Healy, Ph.D.,

Help parents join your team!
Parents want their children to succeed, but they aren’t sure how they can help. Use Parents on Board to show them what they can do at home for their children at school. After all, children whose parents are involved in their education:

  • get better grades
  • do more homework
  • have better attendance
  • have a higher graduation rate
  • demonstrate a more positive attitude.

The Parents on Board program, by Michael H. Popkin, Ph.D., Bettie B. Youngs, Ph.D., Ed.D., and Jane M. Healy, Ph.D., is research-based and gives parents the tools to help their children get the best education possible.

Video vignettes will get great reactions from parents!
Parents on Board uses an engaging video and group-discussion format to help parents realize that everyone faces similar problems when it comes to encouraging their children’s academic success— and everyone can find solutions, too.

It’s easy to lead a group using our video and group discussion format!
The Leader’s Guide, included in the Program Kit version of the program, gives you step-by-step instructions on when to show the video portions and how to lead the discussions. Parents follow along with the Parent’s Guide.

Special “parent preview” makes it easy to sign parents up!
The Program Kit version of the Parents on Board program includes directions for a special 30-minute promotional presentation. Designed as a mini-seminar, “Helping Your Child Succeed in School: An Introduction to Parent Involvement” includes video snippets and is an excellent way for you to publicize the workshop to groups of parents (such as PTA meetings).
